  • Does this constitute visa denial/refusal or not?

I am holder of H4 visa.Since I wanted to visit US again for the purpose of attending an interview this time , so I decided to appear for visa interview seeking a B1/B2 visitor visa as I did not want to conceal the intention of my visit. But the counselor at the US embassy told me that I can go to the US for attending an interview on H4 visa itself and there was no need to apply for visitor visa. My passport was returned without any endorsement or adverse remark/any letter being given to me to provide more info or rejection reasons..My query is that keeping this episode in mind, whether it would be treated as a denial/refusal of visa for future or will be just ignored.I need to apply afresh for extension of my H4 status and do not know what to fill in the forms.
Thanking you in anticipation for answering the query

You can enter on a H4 only if the H1b holder is working in the US. It is not considered a denial if the visa was never processed.

But since you attended the interview and the visa application/fee was accepted and you were not granted the visa, it could be construed upon as a denial.

The consulate no longer marks denials on the passport and it is saved on a computer.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
