Whenever anyone tries to be friendly too soon, people at the other hand think that the person is from Amway/Quixstar. And it is reasonably understood.

Because this is so widespread, anyone who moves to a different area and is trying to get to know more people genuinely, many people think this guy must be Amway/Quixstar. It is such a disgrace that because of these guys' inappropriate practice, genuine socializing has to suffer.

The article is good. I certainly didn't know about it. Thanks.

I agree with you, Mr. Khatri. I, for one, just try not to make any Indian friends for the reason that the person might be a bug. Nonetheless, I did get approached by some of these cheapos.

Yeah, I have seen many of these couples coming to the grocery store for just a pack of gum or bananas.

Last few times they asked my number, I gave out the local police number.

            Good !

One could give out some pundit ****'s number so the first thing the bug is asked for is Credit Card number.

LOL....Good idea. Just the way I saved the number as "Ignore" on my phone, the Am/Quix reps should save these local police numbers as "Don't call"

                Cheap Trick???

After 1 week, the couples called me and said that they want to talk business. My husband asked them whether it has something to do with Quickstar like thing. They said they cannot talk in phone and they want to see in person. I visited them (drove almost 27 miles) with my husband (my husband was not interested though). The couples were talking something about business for 3 hours and they didnot even mention the name Quickstar once. Finally they said the word. My husband conveyed his disinterest to them. Later they started talking like what happens if you lose your job? ......You have to learn how to be a millionaire in 10 years.... type of thing.

We said goodbye to them and he advised me not to give the phone no.s to anyone from nowon.

According to our point of view, we are not suggesting 'Quickstar' is good or bad. But if someone is not interested, please DO NOT try to drag them on to this.
I did not include an interesting part in the above story. I thought it was an accident but after going through this forum (learnt these guys would do anything to make us member) I am thinking now may be it's not an accident and it is purposefully done.

When the wife was serving snacks and drinks to my husband, she (age not more than 30) was bending more than necessary and the person in front of them can see her ..............This was done 2-3 times. I know that it is not descent to mention it in the forum and that's the other reason I did not mention this first time. (As I am God fearing woman, I sincerely apologize if I mistaken this incident wrong)

Before we left, thay made (forced) us to watch a CD. It is a Conference CD where everyone meets and asks questions to the senior people. They are saying the conference was held in Dallas. But me and my husband was wondering bcos we did not see any faces other than Desis.(might be in India!!!)

My husband was mentioning them about the Visa stuff (he is in H1B and I am in H4) as a reason to decline this golden opportuunity (thats what they call). The guy told me there are thousands of H1B and H4 people who does this. I was shocked to see the website sent by Immihelp administrator as it clearly states it is not legal to work other than the sponsoring company for H1B Visa holder.

The one part I admire from these guys are whatever reason we give them to avoid to join, they come up with clever(!) solution on the spot.

I was also impressed by this during my first hit. Then, I realized how badly they need people to join their club and hence the persistence.

You may be right about the inappropriate acting by that woman.

Irving is a major hub for BWW/Amway/Quixtar activity. If you happen to go to any shop on Mcarthur Rd, you are bound to run into one or the other. Shopping late in the night is the best solution to avoid these bugs.

In general, they have a few Caucasians on the stage, just to fool around wearing suits driving rented BMWs and Escalades. Most of the attendees are South Asians, no doubt about it!

Hah, you call their solutions clever? May be it sounds for a second, but just give a second thought and their reason will sound stupid to you, no more clever. They build castles on air.

Just say a firm no and that you are not interested in that crap. Dont change your shopping times for these ppl. After my initial experience, I stopped returning smiles to any 'e-business' suspicious person I see similing at me while shopping They surely get pissed off and I burst out laughing as soon as their back is past me... lol.

                        My experiance

Guys! Let me share my experience as you will never hear of it. I can understand ordinary people are involved in this but it is hard to believe that my former manager was also involved in it. It was 4 years back when I was doing my internship at a Fortune 500 company in India. My manager (quality manager) might be making 6-8 lacks easily at that time. He was all the time admiring my work and asking me if I would be interested in additional projects out side of the company which might help to boost my career once I come out of the college. I had impression that he might asked for Lean/Six Sigma related projects out side of the company as I herd that he was having his own small business firm and I was good in this field, and I was thinking that if I performe good then he would hire me in this fortune 500 company. BTW, No body exactly knew what was his firm! On one weekend he asked me to attend one seminar of another firm with whom he and his company was affiliated. I thought I am the top of the world as I will be leading real life lean projects. With extraordinary spirits, I went to attend this seminar, paid 100RS for entry fees. Within a few minutes I was surrounded by hundreds of Amway folks. It didn’t take a long to realize that why he had invited me. Afterwards he stopped by a couple of times at my home to make my parents insist to join that business. However, my mother was able to tackle the situation. In my case, that inspired me a lot to come to the USA on F-1 as I was sure that he won’t hire me in that company until I join Amway. 

I can not stop myself posting my second experience.

I was in Irvine, wholesome choice shopping for groceries. One descent couple came towards me and my wife and asked are you from mumbai, I replied "yes" and later found out that we are from same location of mumbai. Then that lady started talking.

"Here Indian people dont talk much with each other, I am very happy today that I found some one from my area. I help my husband running his own business and most of the time I have to stay at home. I feel very boring sometimes. Good that you met us. could you please give me your contact number so I will call you if feel bored then we can talk enough.".

There was no way to say "NO" for giving cell no.

After a week they started calling my phone but I was not able to pick up the phone. So after 2-3 attempts they kept a message," Hi, we met in wholesome, I want to discuss something important with you regarding my business, please call me back"

I understood by that message, what could be his business.

                            Why this venom ?

                            Hi guys,
I do not understand why you guys are spewing such venom against the Amway guys. WHAT is the reason behind this tirade ? Can someone please answer the following quesitons ?
                            - What do you KNOW about Amway ?
                            - What do you KNOW about pyramid schemes and whether they are
                            legal or not ?

Why not have a healthy discussion ? Just NOT LIKING someghing because "my friend said so" or "it is all MLM " (WHAT is MLM is what I want to know" or "Oh, it is all a scam" (WHAT is so "scamy" in Amway ? - come on tell me") or "Oh, I googled it and found out"....then use the same priciple and "google" your studies, no need to waste parents' good money in schools and colleges".

                            - Guys, you are studying Mathematics and taking tuitions from
                            a Biology professor.
                            - You are RENTING your apartments and advising your friends:
                            NOT TO BUY AHOUSE.
                            - You think you know better than people like profesionl scientists,
NASA Engineers - (never mind other IT Engineers) who have RETIRED
                            from the Amway business.

Wake up and stop mud slinging guys. Do not badmouth something WITHOUT KNOWING what it is! Always remember, that even people like you deserve a second chance. Why waste it ?

                            Otherwise:

                            - Keep working till your back breaks at 65.
                            - If the back is OK then continue to work as Senior Citizens at Walmart.
                            - Why Listen to "Amway bugs" - remain a bug yourself and make
                            OTHER people rich.

                            Cheers

                              My 2 cents!

I have found these to be common pick-up phrases in the area i live. (4 encounters)

                              1. In Indian grocery/video stores: Depending on the movie section you are in, they ask "You speak this language? Can you please recommend some good movies, because i love movies in your language but have been out of touch and i am new to this city" (and i have found that they had been living for a while and speak the same language!!)
                              2. In malls and walmart: "You look very familiar, do you work for Cisco?" (as it happens, thousands of Indian guys work for such popular employers and he picked the right face!!a miracle).

Oh please.... Get rich from Amway and save us, the lesser mortals to break our backs and work till we die. We prefer it that way than be a pest for the rest of the society around us.
