As long as the application is pending before Oct 1st, you can stay in US legally.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

You have been told it is "period of authorized stay". You need not do anything but wait for the approval.

It is a pseudo status like period. If the Extension is approved, you will be in status for the entire period. If denied, you will be out of status.
