Please Advise - H1B extension

I am currently in my 5th year(4yr and 9 months) of H1B. If I go back to India now, come back to US after 12 months and then apply for H1 extension, will I get the extension for the remaining 12-13 months or will it get reset and I will be able to get extension upto 6 more years. Appreciate your help and advise.

Only remaining period unless you apply for a new cap number through your employer.

Thanks for the reply. I have one more question on the same. Say I have my current H1 Visa until Mar'2010. I go back to India and can I then apply for the fresh H1 application through cap in year 2009? If yes, then if I come after 1 year to US on the new H1 got through cap, can I then stay for 6 more years?
