I attended the H1 interview on 10th sept at chennai consulate and got it. This forum has been extremely useful for the preparation. I advise everyone to go thru the user experiences and prepare your answers accordingly. I have seen many people in the queue with very little supporting docs. None of the Visa officer seemed to be intimidating. It's just that we are too nervous about the outcome. My interview lasted hardly for 3 minutes. The transcript is as follows:
Me: Good Morning.
VO: Good morning. Pls pass on the file.
Me: <passed it over>.
VO: Can i see your degree certificate?
Me: Sure madam. <handed the certificate and she verified the certificate>
VO: Is the project in-house or client based?
Me: It's an in-house project.
VO: What's the project about? <I heard it as where's the project?>
Me: Dallas,Texas
VO: I asked about the project - not where?
Me: <very briefly explained about the project>
Vo: <she checked something (may be abt the sponsoring comapany) in the system for a minute> Your visa will be couriered. < handed over the documents>
Me: Thanks madam.
Tips:
Get all the supporting docs and arrange them properly in a file.
Be prepared for all the likely questions based on other user experiences. In all the counters the same questions were repeatedly asked.
Credibility of the sponsoring employer matters a lot.
