Does H4 require employer letter?

Hi,

I am appearing for H1B stamping at Chennai next week. I have all the papers from the employer. My wife also appearing for interview along with me.

My Question is:

Do we need to have a separate letter for H4 from the employer that describes the relationship and purpose of travel. ( I know this is required if she appear separately)
