can i sue??

company promised to renew my visa - all the forms and letters were filled out and signed - check to DHS and for legal fees was even cut. I have copies of everything.

However, a few months later i got laid off for budgetary reasons. No effort was made to have me sent to another department so I could maintain my status.

A lawyer said I could sue. I'm not sure if I could, hence my asking you experts. ha ha.

Any replies or advice would be welcomed.

The lawyer is trying to make money out of you. The employer can terminate you anytime. Move on and find a job ASAP or return back to your home country.

H1b is for "temporary" workers.

As a guest worker you should have been laid off before citizens and LPRs. Why would you expect preferential treatment?
