SSN application not approved, Changes to Petition requested: Please Help

Hi,

I entered USA in August 2008 on H4 visa.
After comming here, My employer gave me a copy of my approved petition (I797 ) to file for SSN to start working from October.
At the SSN office, the officer said that I will have to get a new I94 and changes on the I797.
Appreciate if someone can tell me how to get this done.

Ask the employer to file for a change of status amendment and after it gets approved, you get a H1b I-94 using which SSN can be applied.
