H1B Visa Renewal/Stamping

Hi :
I am on H1B visa and my wife is on H-4. Both of us have our renewed visa (second term) and are traveling to India. Our passports have visa stamping from the first term ( EXPIRED DEC 07) .

Is it required for us to take appointments and get our passports stamped at the consulate ( chennai) before we return. Would it be a problem while re-entering USA ? We will be carrying the approved H-1B and H4 with us.
