Can i apply my wife H4 without notifying employer

I am going to appear for H1-visa at end of Dec-2008. till i have not confirmed visa date. Now i want to apply my wife and kids H4 with me. Can i do it myself. Is it required to inform my US employer? or any document needed from them? What is the exact procedure for it?
Note: when my employer submited my file i have mentioned that i will go alone for visa stamp. But now i realize that h4 is easy with my h1 stamp.
Can i take risk to stamp for h4 without informing my consulant

Technically ....

... you do not not need your employer's "permission" to file for your spouses or dependent's visas.

However, in another post you mentioned that you don't even want to travel to the US until the last day of your own visa.

It is better if all of you attend the visas together. If you get your H1 visa, then,your wife and children also get H4 visas.
