I-94 Validity

My wife and kid are on H-4 visa. My latest I-797 has an I-94 attached to it with validity until February 2011. But when my wife and kid visited India and came back the officer at port of entry gave I-94 valid only until Sep 2009 even after presenting the new I-797. I presume the officer only looked the visa validity in the passports which is until Sep 2009.

My worry now is that do they have to leave the US after Sep 2009 and get visa restamped? Is there any alternative?

---- Go to the nearest CBP office and you can get it corrected. Just carry all the documents as you would while enetering US at a POE
