Lay off, Change of status/transfer

Hi

I got laid off on feb 28th, 09. I found out that I have 2 options: 1 change of status to B2, 2 H1B transfer through a consultant.

Which one is a better or safer option?

If I apply for B2, how much time will I get to be in the country after its approval?
If for some reason it gets rejected, and I have to apply for an H1 transfer, will there be a prob for the transfer?

If in the first place, I apply for an H1 transfer, what are the chances I(my consultant)will get a query?
Is there a problem transferring a non IT H1 to an IT one?
Just incase the consultant doesn't have a project, how much time can one be on bench ?

1. For the period B2 is approved if COS is successful
2. Depens on whether everything is ok with you and your employer
3. No bench period is allowed at all, employer must pay you all the time

May be you already are late for a COS or a transfer as you have been out of status for 2-3 weeks.
