Need help in DS 156 form

Seniors need ur help!!! i don't have any surname even in my passport my name is written under given name......
but while filling DS 156 form they r giving me the instruction if u don't have ur surname ,then write FNU in Question7 and your full name in Question 6......
now plz tell me what should i do.....as last time i filled the application according to their instruction..........but at the POE officer told me its incorrect.....first name is never unknown........

Carry a printout of the instructions. That is the approach you need to follow or get your PP corrected to split your name.
