  • How to change approved H1B extension

I have just completed my 3 years in US and recently filed for H1 transfer with company B from Company A and to my horror I found that,INS has approved my petition but for only one year ,till end of this year.I called them to verify , if this petition can be changed and they said employer need to provide sufficient paperwork to extend it.

My question is what are the steps /options I need to follow to change this approved H1B extension for 3 years without having to really worry about filing for extension year after year? And its not something I completed 6 or 7 years,I just completed 3 years....so hence the worry

In the recent days, if our employer is a consulting company and the work order is valid for a year, USCIS has renewed H1bs for that period only. You have to apply for another extension when time comes.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

Thats understandable....and what if I get laid off at the client place before my contract ends, say October ,the time before when I have to file my extension and then I will not be having any work order to show them as proof for extension,I guess my application for extension will be in jeopardy and so does my status....Is my concern valid ? Will there be any problem when I file for extension again and what will be the best time to file again....Thanx

Yes your concern is valid, without a work order uscis will not extend your H1 anymore.
