Travel on B1 if H1 is on 221g

Can one travel on B1 if H1 is on 221g and the reason being 'Security Check'.

I know of this reason as the VO explicitly told me that my visa is approved but they need clearance on my name as it's flagged.

If yes, how to get the passport back from the embassy and any implication this might have in the H1 process?

Non an issue if you have a valid B1 and plan on returning back unless your intent is to file for a COS.
