employer's prior approval for h4 visa of spouse

My wife has an approved petition for H1b visa. On her interview date which is scheduled a couple of weeks from now, I would like to accompany her as spouse under H4 visa. Is it required by the consulate to have her employer's prior approval before I can apply/appear for interview for H4 visa?
