H1B and H4

Hi

I am on valid H1B visa through an Indian company. They want to send me back to India as my project in US is ending. I want to stay here until I find another project. My question is:

1. Can I move to H4 Visa (my wife is H1b) while in US or would I need to go back to India and do it?
2. If I find the project, can I start working immediately or will I need to get a re-approval/stamping of H1B?

Thanks. But I am not planning to change the employer. Will the same employer have to file my H1B again too?
