H1B approved, can my Wife apply for H4 now ?

My H1B (first time) approved, and USICIS has sent me the approval notice.
My wife is in my home country. She needs to apply for H4 visa. Can she do it now or does she need to wait until October, (since my H1B starts from Oct) ?

Please advise.

She will get H4 only when you're in H1 status in US. Are you in H1 now? If not, wait.

sk4ih please don't provide incorrect information.

Your wife can apply for H4 visa anytime now. But since you will be in H1 status from October, she will be able to enter the US only after October 1 (or prabably a week before that). Alternatively, if your status is say F1 now then she can apply for F2 visa and change status to H4 from within US after entering on F2 visa. But she has to apply for COS before October 1 and she cannot enter on F2 visa after October 1.

i have the same questions as the thread starter.. if they apply and get scheduled for interview, i read that they need to bring bank statements, pay stubs etc. for proof.. i cannot provide them that since my work starts at oct 2009..is it a probleM?

If it is the first time that you are applying and never been on an H1 job, you do not need paystubs. Those are needed to prove that you were in status previously while in the US.
