I'm planning to travel to USA this month as first timer on H1. People who have travelled on first time with H1 visa, please share your experience on the Port of entry process and questions asked....

Also let me know the documents carried and also mentioned the airport you entered.

There are no special tricks to be performed at the POE. They will ask about your company, job, location etc. Nothing if your H1b is genuine should be a reason for you to worry about.

I have the following docs:

Original I797
Copy of petition
Copy of LCA
Offer letter..
passport with visa

I dont have any such client letter... coz only after i reach my employer office, i wud be deloyed at one of its clients project.

Questions at POE at Newark Airport

Hi,

I arrived to US in June 2008 and my port of entry is gone simple. You will be given a POE form in your flight just before 2 hrs the flight will be landing. Just make you have all your employer information handy so u can fill up all the information correctly.

Questions that i have faced by POE officer
Some general talk & wishes
He asked me to show my H1B petition (I-797B copy).
He asked me which employer sponsored my H1B and their address.

Make sure to carry all the documents at POE what you have carried at US consulate when you went for visa stamping and keep them indexed.

Also, make sure that you know the address where you will be staying. It has to be a proper address (No hotels).

Only thing i dont have is the client letter... I hope this wouldnt be a problem?

visa office even asked me as to how much money i was carrying...i told her....and also my stay for a month is pre arranged by the employer.They do ask about the address where u will be staying.They also enquire about if u will be working for an in house project/ or clent so i think u must carry all the documents
