This is for my friend.

1. She is India. Got h1b stamped but employer asked to not to travel until next 6-8 months.
2. Her would be husband is on F1 visa.
3. What are the options she has if she wants to join her husband in this year and later convert to H1B whenever she is ready for work?

She can apply for a F2 visa after the marriage. She need to get F2 stamped. She can travel to U.S in F2 and later do a COS from F2 to H1B when her employer finds her a job.

If the COS is approved and if she receives I-797A (approval notice with a new I-94), then she can start working for the employer immediately. If the COS is approved and if she receives I-797B (approval notice without a new I-94), then she has to leave the country and re-enter in her old H1B visa provided it is not cancelled during her F2 stamping. If the H1B visa was cancelled during the F2 stamping then she need to get her H1B stamped again to re-enter U.S.
