H1- B extension and job change scenario

Hello Everyone,
I have a question regarding changing jobs.

Does anyone know what happens when,one has completed the normal 6 years of H1-B, has his greeencard process going and also gets the 3 year additional extension for H1-B. However if the person wants to change the job now, what happens?

e.g My husband is planning to file for GC under EB-3. He has 2 years of his H1-B remaining. He thinks that if he files now, say sometime later (e.g. 4 years) if he changes his job and gets to file under EB-2 there would be no issues. So we wanted to clarify this.

If your husband has to pay the GC filing fees or part of it, tell him its not worth it. If he files either EB3 or EB2 now, most probably he will get his green card after retirement. Instead invest that $7,000+ GC filing fees in something more worthwhile.
