H1B Extension

My renewed H1 is expiring next year. First I got for three years and renewed for another 3 years. But, I did not use full 6 years. My total stay will be coming around 4 and 1/2 years in that allowed six years. So, I am guessing I am allowed to stay another 1 1/2 year. My question is, do I get renewal for 18 months? I read somewhere that H1 extension will be either 1 year or 3 years.
