L1 to H1 conversion -- UREGNT

Hi

I am working in a company "AB", I have a valid L1B visa till 2010 Oct (I 94 valid till Oct 2010). My Company applied for L1 to H1 Conversion(Status Change) which got denied, yet to know denial reason. Can I stay in US on L1 or need to leave US and apply for a new H1.

I travelled to India duing July/Aug during the filing time, will this have impact to my H1 conversion. While coming back my I 94 was also stamped with Oct 2010.

Please help me
