passport validity and H1 period

Hello all,

Is there any relation between passport validity and H1 visa period ?

My passport is going to expire in Oct 2010. The company that I am going to join in Feb is going to file my H1. So, since my passport is going to be valid only until Oct, will I get a H1 visa only till Oct ?

Or, should I renew my passport before filing for H1 ?

Petition is different from Visa. Filing H1B petition will not have any effect because of your passport validity. However, when the petition gets approved and when you go for visa stamping, there are chances that you may get a visa only till the passport expiry. So it is advisable to renew the passport before going for the visa stamping.

Thank you for your reply. I will get it renewed before the stamping then.
(My only concern was that the company might ask me to produce my passport on the first day of job and so I dont want to give it for renewal right now).
