What happens if Deported?

I am planning to visit India in April. I am on H1b visa and have 1 layer in between my employer and the client. I wanted to know what happens if while returning back, I am deported from the airport. Will I be barred from coming back to US for 'n' amount of time, or will it affect any future application for a visa.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Just make sure you don't leave behind too many belongings, if you have a car, have the car paid off and give the title to a trusted friend to sell in case things go wrong at the airport. Think on the brighter side, if deported you will be deported to the land of opportunities, in the US, careerwise there is no scope anyways. Since companies cannot get the best and brightest they will offshore more jobs.
