Transit Visa in place of expired US visa

I am returning to India from USA on the day when my US visa expires. I will be travelling through Frankfurt. I am out of USA by the time my visa expires but I will have my visa expired which I reach Frankfurt. Should I still go for transit visa just to be in airport. Can somebody help here.

First of all check with your airline if Franfurt needs a transit visa. They are the best people to answer. I think only UK needs Transit Visa.
