Does H4 period of stay get added to 6 years of H1 B?

I was on H1B and in US from Oct 2004 to May 2009 and since May 2009 I am on H4. I currently have a job offer and I need to discuss with the employer regarding my H4 to H1 transfer, is it true to say that I have 1.5 years left on my H1 B to complete the 6years period? Do I need to add the H1 + H4 period of stay and then calculate the time left for 6 year completion .

Please advise, any help is greatly appreciated.
