will there be a lottery for the H1B SLots opening from oct2010

I don't think there will be any H1b lottery since there are hardly any jobs left in the US. There is definitely a lottery to get a job in the US though.

Whether to go for the lottery or not depends on the number of H1B applications received. The filing starts on April 1st and will close when it reaches the alloted limit.

I have not yet filed the application.
I am in the process of getting all the documents ready.
All i want to know is by what time earliest should I file the petition this year(2010) so that i get it filed in time.

Last year (2009) slots remained open till Nov.
Will it be the same case this year?

It will be a great help if someone who has gone through the process gives some timeline with their experience and predictions.

Did you read my previous reply clearly? The total H1B's available for each year is 65K. Last year, it took till November to reach 65K applications, so the quota was till then (Because of the bad economy). This year, the filing started on April 1st. Check the USCIS web site to see how many applications were received so far. When it reaches the 65K limit, the window will close and then you will need to wait till the next year.
