Is Traveling to India is safe now?

Hi,

I have a H1 visa till June 2011. Now I am planning to visit India on Aug 2010. I heard a news that in Newark and JFK airport few H1B visa holders where stopped and sent back to India, and the reason which was told (may be it is a rumor) that due to the unemployment for Americans.

So this puts me into dilemma whether to visit India. I would appreciate your valid input on this.

Rumor is rumor...The fact that some people got deported in january from JFK or EWR is true, but the reason is they failed to provide some employer-employee relationship documents. What is that, you can find here:

If you have all valid docs then nothing to worry while coming back.

Its a rumor. Worst case scenario, even if they send you back, you'll have more and better job opportunities in India than the US.

It is NOT a rumor and has happened due to incorrect interpretation of the memo by the POE officers.

I recently came back from india after 3 months[my h1b expires next year] and landed in sfo , no one asked me anything about any document.The officer just asked the purpose of visit and I told i'm on h1b and that was it.But that doesn't mean one shouldn't carry the requisite documents.
This forum has been a great help[especiall txh1b and other senior members] to me and love to post my experience here.
