H4 visa extension -Drop Box option for kids above 14 years old.

Hello ,

I have a kid who turned recently 14 years old. We got our extension in US last month. We are planning to goto India in June. Myself/Spouse will be eligible for drop box. Will my son be eligible or not? I read that dropbox option is available for only kids under 14 years old. Can anyone please let me know if we have to goto inperson interview for my son. If so , do a parent has to accompany with him. Can the parent do dropbox and just schedule interview only for my son. Please Advise.
