I am currently in US on L1B visa and my i-94 is expiring in end of December. I got H1 selection and received last week i797B approval notice. I spoke to my attorney and according to him, the H1 was filed in consular mode not in change of status mode. I have to travel to India to get the stamping done before end of December. Is there a way to do change of status within US without traveling to India? If yes, what is the risk and timing? Also, I am planing to go to India in 2020 June and can get the stamping done at that time. Please advise.
