You cannot write N/A. As per rules, if there is no surname, then one should write FNU as given name and and given name in the passport as the last name in the visa application. But doing this will cause issues later when the person is here in U.S. Starting from SSN to driving license to all other documents will have the first name as FNU. So it isadvisable to correct the passport now.
