admin processing- time given to submit passport

Hello,

My H1 -B visa stamp is currently under admin processing (221g -yellow slip- Mumbai Consulate. Passport Returned). How much time do I have to submit the passport to the nearby VFS or Mumbai Consulate, after I have received an email from the consulate asking to submit the same(assuming admin processing is complete). I am thinking about out of town travel.
ALSO
Can I submit my passport to a consulate in another city/ country , if I am not in my town.
Any suggestions?

Some what my case is also similar. I was asked to submit my passport along with dependent. Dependent (h4) has got the visa issued but H1 applicant is still showing administrative processing? How long they would take to issue visa after submitting passport.
