Question on Travel with pending H4 extension

My spouse's i797 is approved and still my H4 extension is pending for approval. We have made travel arrangements to India hoping my H4 will be approved before journey date. Have below questions w.r.t visa stamping in case of worst scenario. Can anyone please advise.

1. Myself and my spouse both eligible for Drop box. Can I avail drop box option even when my h4 is not approved before drop box appointment. Or should I go in person interview for stamping
2. Upon return to US, will I have any problem at the Port of Entry. Should I carry any supporting documents
