  • error in I-94

    Hi,
At the POE the immigration officer wrongly wrote J1 instead of H1B.i saw it later and when i came back to get it corrected, he corrected it making the J as H.
Now when i am applying for my SSN they are saying that this is a J1.How can this be when i got it corrected? Did he not update his system? Is it linked to the ssn office?
    Pls. help

Usually it takes ome time for the records to get updated into the centralized system (approximately 20 days). So give it some time and try again in the SSN office. If it is already 20 days, then go to the closest CBP office and explain your case.

Is it possible that they have corrected my I-94 but not updated it in their system?Yes/No
After insisting the ssn office have accepted my application and issued me a letter with a reference id and a lead time of 30-60 days. It also says that you will get the ssn if the information provided is correct. But what if the information entered in their system is wrong from their end(they have input J1 in their system instead of H1B).
      Pls. help.

        >>> Possible. But I would give it at least 20 days before I get into that conclusion.

        >>> Like mentioned before, contact the local CBP post if the records remain the same even after 20 days. They should be able to fix this for you as it was their mistake at the 1st place.

It's usually within 3 weeks. Give it a couple of more days and if the correction still doesn't reach the SSN office, then you should contact the nearby CBP post.

If it is already 4 weeks, then I suggest you contact the local CBP post to confirm that your status is corrected from J1 to H1B in their system.
