regarding h1

in oct 2008 I got my H1. but due to market conditions I did not get job. then in 2009 I converted my status to H4. so my question is If I don't work for 3 years what happends to my H1 status? Thanks in advance

nothing is going to happen to your h1. Once some good company ready to hold your h1, again you can change your status from h4 to h1 with them.

H1 will expire after it's end date.
After that your employer needs to file for extension.
