H1B Extension Procedure

Hello,

My current H1B is expiring this September and i need to apply for a renewal. My question is that as per the memo earlier this year in January, do we need to submit all the documents including the client letter (showing the start date and end date of contract), Letters from companies that are layers between me and the client? Basically showing the complete chain of companies are involved in my contract at the client.

My employer is also saying that the visas are being granted based on the length of contract i have with the client. Which means that if i have a 6 month contract then the visa will be for 6 months and not 3 years. Is this true?

Has someone completed their H1 extension this year? If this is not the procedure then what is?
Please advice and help.

Procedure is always same for new H1 or extn.
Submit as many documents as possible to avoid RFE.

Else you have to submit all that later, if you get RFE.

Sending in the letter from the client is not a problem, what i more importantly want to know is

1. Do i need a letter from the layer between the client and my company? Do i need to show the layer involved? Is getting a letter from the client about my contract (standard verbiage) not enough?

2.Does the length of the contract dictate how many year H1 i get?

Has anyone gone through this process of renewal this year?
I need your suggestions.

>>> Client letter should be enough. But of USCIS request you send the SOW between the client and your company, then you will anyhow need to introduce the prime vendor as your company will not have the SOW with the client.

2.Does the length of the contract dictate how many year H1 i get?
>>> Yes. If your employer is requesting to extend your H1B beyond the contract period with the client, then they should show proof of work after your current contact.

I understand that these are all the rules mentioned in the memo earlier this year but my question is are these being followed and has anyone gone through the process of H1 extension this year?
