I need clarification on Change of status from L1 to H1.

Company A processed H1 while I was in India and it is approved in 2008.
But I came to U.S on L1A visa through Company B and working here

Now If I want to move to H1, what are the options that I have??

If I have to work for Company A should I file for Change of status??

Is it possible for me to work for Company C ?? Is so what should company C do with my H1??

>>> File a COS to H1B and when that gets approved you can start working for Company A. Alternatively, you can go back to your home country and get the H1B stamped and re-enter in H1B visa and start working for the Company A.

>>> Possible. Company C can file an H1B petition on your behalf using the same CAP from the existing H1B petition from Company A. Just give them a copy of your existing H1B approval notice along with the other documents.
