Can anybody tell me whether an original copy of my husband's i-797 is required for my h4 stamping???I have xerox copies of his i-797 and a original
h4 approval i-797 of mine along with me..but my husband has lost his original i-797 very recently and i have my visa interview for h4 stamping on 23rd of this month??

if he needs to apply for a duplicate i-797, how should we proceed and what will be the processing time for getting the same.....

Original I-797 of the principle applicant is required. Check this

It will take anywhere between 1-3 months to get the duplicate copy.

One option is to ask your husband to file for the duplicate (I believe it is form I-824). When you go for the visa interview, carry a copy of the form I-797 of the principle applicant, form I-824 indicating that a duplicate is been requested from USCIS and a letter from your husband's employer stating that his I-797 has been misplaced and a copy is requested from USCIS. I hope that will help.
