Urgent: Visa re-stamping required after Job change?

Hi,
I have a valid (unexpired) visa from my Previous employer. I recently switched jobs and have a new I-797. My lawyer, and a thread on this forum, mentioned that I dont need a new visa for re-entry in the US. But the folks at Mumbai consulate believe this would create problems for me at the immigration desk, and that I need a new visa! Help! Is this just paranoia, or has anyone experienced this at the immigration counter? I dont have a lot of time before I have to return. Thanks.

As long as your previous H1 visa stamp is valid and unexpired, you don't need new H1 visa stamp.

Carry passport with old H1 visa stamp and new H1 status approval(I-797).
