H1B stamping after extension

Hello
I got extension for h1b and got new I94 (sept 2012)

1)I have heared many negative cases where ppl go out for stamping and got issue to come back. ( visa stamping and port of entry)
Is it a good time to go out for stamping? Which one is safe canada or India (native country)?
What documents (additonal) i should carry when go for stamping and prepare for question and answer ( other than sal slip, employee verfication letter,i797 etc)
I am not a full time employee. Current proj is active and i m working at direct client of my employer.

2) My wife has got H4 visa ( upto 2012) based on my new i94 and came to usa.Now if i go alone out of country for stamping and in worst case if I dont get visa and cant come back to usa, what will happen to my wife h4 visa? She need to come back immediately or will have some legal time to close all commitment gracefully and come back.? Or anything i can do to come back usa?

>>> There is no such good or bad time. Each case is different and if you have all the required documents, then any time is good.

>>> See the above answer. The only disadvantage of trying the stamping in a third country consulate is that, if your visa is rejected, then you will end-up leaving to the home country without entering U.S. In case of 221g, you endup staying there for more than the planned duration.

>>> H4 status is valid only as long as the primary H1B spouse is in valid H1B status. If you are out of the country, then you hold no status and so does H4. Only short visits by the H1B holder outside the country without the dependents are allowed.

Or anything i can do to come back usa?
>>> You can try to get the B1 visa.
