H-4 validity of beneficiary minor when parent H-4 applicant leaves the US

Hello,

Situation:
My wife's & son's H-4 extension applications are pending.
The 2 applications have separate receipt numbers. But my son's application has his name as the beneficiary and my wife's name as the applicant. So there applications are "connected".

Question:
If my wife travels out of the US (i.e., abandons the pending H4 extension application), will the H-4 status of my son (who will remain in the US) continue to be valid?

As per my knowledge, YES. But before you take decision on obtaining visa from consulate/embassy, Please double check then proceed ahead. But, just have a question. If your wife is trying to obtain visa from embassy/consulate, why don't you prefer for your son too. Once both got visa approval from embassy, they can withdraw H4 petition that you filed.
