  • H1-B for state government employees

    Hi All,

I did my masters in USA in Civil Engineering. I have been working for a state government department (XX state) in USA since 2 years. I am going to India to get my H1-B stamp on my Passport.

Do I require to submit the following documents to the Consulate being a XX state government employee:

    Unemployment wage report

    Employers Tax returns

    Job vacancy proof.

Also please let me know whether I can go to Canada for visa stamping.

---- Yes, you have to submit all these documents either before the visa interview or as per the instruction of the US Consulate website where you will be attending the visa interview

---- Yes, you can go to Canada for visa stamping and that remains your choice

      >>> Job vacancy proof - Employment verification letter & client letter (if you work for a client) is very important.
The other two documents are important too. But most employers won't provide these confidential documents to their employees. In such case, they can directly send them to the consulate in case the consulate issue you a 221g.

Also please let me know whether I can go to Canada for visa stamping.
      >>> That depends on whether this is your first time H1B stamping or not. If it is a first time H1B stamping, then it is advisable to go to your home country to get the visa stamped, unless you have done your studies in U.S.
Not a legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.
