DS160 update in visa appointment

Given the wait time for visa appointment, I want to schedule the appoint whenever available. I am not sure how long is the “submitted” DS160 valid. I know there is an option to update DS160 number in the update profile section of portal. However, there is no option to update the DS160 of the dependent. Does any one know how to update DS160 number of the dependent?
