  • Visa stamping trip

Hi, my son has an Indian passport and we live in Unites States. We have to travel now to India for work visa stamping but my son’s passport expires in 3 months. Will I be allowed to board the flight to India and then back to United States ? Can someone please advise? Thanks in advance.

Yes, but when he returns to the US, his I-94 will be limited to the expiration date of his passport, if he is using his current passport to re-enter.

If he gets a new passport, he can use the new passport in combination with the visa in his old passport, without needing to get a new visa in his new passport. That way, his I-94 will not be limited by the old passport's expiration.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Processing usually takes 15 business days from receipt by the Embassy of a complete application and may take longer during peak times and in exceptional circumstances.
