how to book visa appointment date?

I am travelling to India from USA next month and I have all my documents as needed.
However, I have not been able to book my visa interview date since the window for the week that I want has not yet opened. can i book the visa appointment date after i am in india?

Technically you only need a Visa after you leave the US. Booking appointment from the US is the exception and from home country is the norm.
