H1B visa status question

Hi,

I recently joined a consulting company after doing my MS and got an H1B from them.
I remember there were rules/restrictions to maintain an F1 visa.

What are the requirements for a H1B visa status? Do you have to be on employer payroll since the start of the visa? Can you be an employee of the company without pay?
My company is not paying me anything since I dont have a project. Is that OK?

In order to maintain H1, you must be working for that employer and getting paid the salary as mentioned in LCA or else you loose H1 status.
