  • LOST EXPIRED PASSPORT, ITS IMPORTANCE TO DS160 FORM & FIR FILLING?

My old passport expired in 2019 and had a visa stamp on it. The VISA had expired in 2014. However, it was lost in 2020. It was only recently that I realised that the old passport was lost.

I contacted the Indian embassy in New York, and they told me not to worry or perform further actions as the passport had expired 4 years ago.

I am currently trying to fill out the DS-160 to get the visa stamping date; however, in its questionnaire, there are 2 questions regarding the lost passport(Have you lost any passport or had it stolen?) and similar questions about previous VISA.

I have not yet filed an FIR for the expired passport that has been lost, as I just found out about this. I still have my current passport.

1)If I report that the passport was lost, will any FIR(report) be searched by the embassy?

    2) Should I file for an FIR/report the lost expired before filling out DS-160?

I am not looking to replace the old expired passport; I am trying to understand if I can fill out the DS-160 without reporting the lost passport to the police station in India.

    Any suggestion will help.
