What documents to use for I-9 verification ?

I am starting a new job next week and need some guidance on I-9 verification documents. Here is my situation:

I was previously on an H-1B visa but got laid off and switched to B2 status.

I have not yet received the physical approval notice (I-797) but have an approval email from my attorney with the end dates and the I-94 number.

What documents can I use for the I-9 verification?

You will need the actual I-797 approval notice for I-9 verification to be completed. The email will not be sufficient since you requested a change of status to B-2.
