Just adding this here because when I was searching for this information, nothing new was available.
My current status: H1 visa stamp expired last August. Have a valid approval notice that’s valid until 2027.
So did a roadtrip to Canada through the Peace Bridge connecting Washington state and British Columbia. Was in Canada for a week.
Then headed back through the Peace Bridge. You’ll have to go through the immigration check when crossing into the US.
The officer who checked my documents was polite. He checked my passport, the expired stamp, approval notice valid until 2027. Then put an orange slip on the windshield of my car and asked me to go to secondary inspection. https://19216811.cam/ https://1921681001.id/
At the secondary inspection, they take your fingerprints, photo, and verify your docs. Then after that, you’re supposed to go into the building and pay $6 to update your I-94. Once done with that, you’re all set. You can drive out to the US side.
I was a bit skeptical about it as it was my first time doing this. Even had back up plans made in case they wouldn’t let me into the US. Lol.
The whole process took around 20 mins.
